Palacio de los deportes de Granollers

Granollers is famous for being a city of sporting tradition. The oldest club is Esport Club Granollers, founded in 1913. Twenty years later the Club d’Atletisme was created and then, in 1940, the Club Atlètic Granollers for basketball. The Granollers Handball club appeared officially on the 23rd of July 1944. Since that time, this club has been an ambassador for the city abroad, at the same time as helping Handball become the most widely played sport, consequently becoming a significant source of elite players. The sporting nature of Granollers culminated in the city being chosen as an Olympic sub-centre for the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992 for Handball. That is why Granollers is now known as the Handball capital of Catalonia.
